Did you know that taking public transportation instead of driving to work could make a significant difference in reducing your carbon footprint? See a comparison chart of actions you can take to reduce your carbon footprint.
You also could use our commute cost calculator to see your actual savings potential if you were to use an alternative commute. In the 2007 Commute Survey, 48% of Stanford employees reported that they regularly take alternative transportation instead of driving alone to work. You can join them! If you're not sure where to start, ask us. We can help you plan your commute from your front door to Stanford. Send email to commuteclub@stanford.edu.
By not purchasing a Stanford parking permit, and joining the Stanford Commute Club you can help reduce emissions, minimize the number of vehicles traveling to and from campus, and benefit financially by not driving alone. We'll reward you with up to $282 a year in Clean Air Cash or Carpool Credit. See if you are eligible and learn more on our Commute Club page.
Stanford's free Marguerite shuttles take you all around campus, to neighboring communities for lunch or errand-running, and meet most Caltrains between 6 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. weekdays. Extended late-night service continues to the Caltrain station between September and June.
Four public transit systems serve Stanford, making it possible for you to get to campus from just about anywhere. Visit our Bay Area Transportation area for a direct connection to all of the agencies and their services.
Bicycling is the easiest way to get around campus. Whether you're commuting to Stanford or just off to a lunch meeting, we'll provide you with everything you need to cycle safely and comfortably.
Save time, money and stress, and help us reduce traffic on campus. If you want to share your commute with a Stanford friend, Parking & Transportation Services' free ridematching service can link you with carpoolers and vanpoolers in your neighborhood. We'll even help pay for your permit (it might even be free!)
To support and encourage those who use alternative forms of transportation, Stanford offers an Emergency Ride Home. This program ensures that when you commute without your car you won't be stranded without transportation should you have an urgent need to get home or to the doctor.
Freshmen students who register for the Freshman Emergency Ride Home program are offered a "safety net" for unforeseen travel emergencies. Students who find themselves stranded off-campus without a way back using existing transit alternatives can take a FREE cab ride back to campus for up to 3 rides per year (each ride must be to a campus destination). |
